NUD HEALTH CAMP
We organized and sponsored a medical camp in Village Nud, District Samba, Jammu and Kashmir, India.
We worked closely with our local charity partner (Jay Kay Women Welfare Society) to identify the lack of free primary healthcare as an important problem in this region. Our target population, the villagers of this region, only seek health care during emergencies due to lack of access to healthcare facilities and poverty. Because of this, significant health conditions often go undiagnosed and untreated until it is too late. The aim of the camp was to help identify those most at need for ongoing care, and to provide free healthcare services and free medicine. The camp was staffed by five dedicated doctors who heard the patients’ complaints, took their blood pressure, distributed free medicine, and scheduled follow-up appointments. We were humbled by the attitude and expertise of the physicians, as they treated and spoke respectfully, irrespective of their patients’ lack of education or low caste.
We served over 200 people during the camp at a cost of Rs. 156,200. |
